Carrie Ducote is a seasoned animal welfare professional with over 15 years of experience in shelter operations, leadership development, and lifesaving strategy. She began her career in 2007 as a volunteer, sparking a deep commitment to improving outcomes for homeless pets.

 

Her expertise spans hands-on shelter management and high-level consulting, including roles as Adoption Manager at Atlanta Humane Society, Operations Manager at Georgia SPCA and Vice President of Mission Delivery at Humane Society of Northeast Georgia. As a National Director at Best Friends Animal Society for eight years, she advised animal services agencies across the country, driving data-informed strategies to reduce euthanasia and implement best practices.

 

She has spoken at several state, regional and national conferences on community cat programming, adopter-centered adoption processes, and other shelter best practices.

Carrie holds a Master of Science in Anthrozoology and a Bachelor’s in Biology, complemented by institutional certifications in Animal Services Executive Leadership and Cat Lifesaving. She is the owner and principal consultant at Shelter Savvy, LLC where she partners with shelters and local governments to build sustainable, compassionate, and effective animal services programs.

Likes: stubby pit bulls, kittens with advanced URI, when someone shows up with tacos

Dislikes: adoption barriers, the word "jot", florescent lights

Hobbies: hiking, killing indoor plants, losing my phone
